Why Head Start Matters
Since 1965, Head Start has been at the forefront of supporting children and families. With a focus on early childhood education, health services, and family engagement, the program has helped millions of children build strong foundations for lifelong success.
Here in North Idaho, MSEHS has carried that mission forward by providing:
- Home visits for infants and toddlers
- Developmental screenings and support
- Parenting education and support groups
- Community referrals and resource navigation
- Free diapers, books, toys, and more for families who qualify
This Open House is more than a birthday—it’s a celebration of the generations of families who have grown, learned, and flourished through Head Start.
What to Expect at the Open House
This isn’t just another info booth—it’s a real party with heart.
Here’s what we have planned:
- Tours of the MSEHS facility: Learn more about our classrooms, services, and staff
- Meet our team: Say hello to the educators, home visitors, and leaders who make it all happen
- Kids’ activity stations: Crafts, games, sensory fun, and a few birthday surprises
- Giveaways and swag: We’ll have special Head Start 60th memorabilia for families
- Photo wall: Take a picture and share your Head Start story
- Cake and refreshments: Because what’s a birthday without cake?
Expect laughter, connection, and a few happy tears as we honor the legacy of this incredible program.

Why We’re Celebrating

- School readiness support for low-income families
- Holistic, family-centered care
- Generations of empowered parents and confident children
- Research-based early education services
We’re not just marking a date. We’re celebrating a movement that has transformed what early education means for families.
And we’re proud to be part of that movement here in Coeur d’Alene.
Looking Back: A Legacy of Impact
From the very beginning, Head Start has focused on breaking the cycle of poverty through education.
In North Idaho alone, MSEHS has:
- Supported thousands of children and caregivers

- Adapted programs to meet the needs of rural families
- Developed customized home visiting and parent coaching models
As we look back, we also lift up the many families who’ve found strength, skills, and support through our doors.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Head Start
As we step into the next decade, MSEHS is more committed than ever to:
- Expanding access to high-quality early education
- Supporting families with culturally responsive, inclusive care
- Partnering with community providers to close resource gaps
- Innovating home-based education models that meet families where they are
Your support and participation in events like this one help us grow stronger and serve more families across North Idaho.
